Our work in South Africa

In July 2014, SkyPower Cares gifted 5,000 portable solar-powered lights to students in South Africa who live in communities that have inadequate or no access to electricity.

This is SkyPower’s way of helping to:

  • Provide school-aged children and their siblings in South Africa with safe lighting after dark.
  • Extend the amount of time available for students to study in the evening.
  • Empower children to study and reach their educational goals.
  • Create nearly 7.3 million hours of reading light each year.
  • Reduce the need for dangerous and polluting kerosene lanterns.
  • Save families money in energy-related expenses.

“Our vision is to inspire and encourage other caring corporations and individuals to help us make a difference for schoolchildren in unelectrified communities worldwide and help them break the cycle of poverty through personal empowerment.” – Kerry Adler, SkyPower’s President and Chief Executive Officer
